The stomach is an organ that is part of the upper digestive system. It consists of several layers of tissue;
– The internal mucosa
– The submucosa in which the large blood and lymphatic vessels, fibers and nerve cells are found.
– The muscular which is the main muscle of the stomach.
– And the serosa which is a thin membrane covering the external wall of the stomach
🔹The stomach makes the link between the esophagus with the sphincter and the small intestine with the duodenum.
The main function of our stomach is the digestion of our food. Digestion is permitted thanks to the secretion of digestive enzymes and gastric fluids secreted by the internal mucosa of this organ.
Digestion ranges from 2 to 6 hours depending on the food and the amount present in the stomach.
The disintegration of food is possible thanks to muscle mixing and contraction. The result is a thick, acidic mixture called chyme.
🔹The stomach also has the function of sterilizing the food bolus. A malfunction of the stomach pH can have a multitude of more or less important consequences.
– gastritis
– ulcer
– inflammation resulting in gastroesophageal reflux
– an overproduction of bacteria promoting fermentation etc …
∼Naturopathic advice∼
☑️ Remember to chew your food well. Chewing plays a fundamental role in good digestion (see article « The importance of chewing »)
☑️ Avoid stress as much as possible, especially during meals. Stress acidifies the body and in the same way the digestive system.
☑️ Always have little or uncooked vegetables on our plate. Our diet should contain at least 80% plants 🍅🥑.
☑️ Avoid aciferous foods such as red meats, cereal products, dairy products etc. 🥩🍟🍩🍦
☑️ Remember to hydrate yourself 💧 with quality water and / or infusions ⬇️
